Event: Animal Spay and Neuter Clinic
Date:October 19, 2009 - October 23, 2009
Description:In collaboration with Dr. Delfino Guevara and Dr. Lynn Beckmann (U.S.), PEACE Isla Mujeres is happy to announce that we will be hosting a free animal spay/neuter clinic on Isla Mujeres, October 19th-23rd.

This clinic will be focusing specifically on the stray cats of Isla. We understand that the stray cat population is a problem for everyone; residents, business owners, tourists and the animals themselves. While we continue to work Dr. Delfino on a regular monthly basis with our feline sterilization program, we have decided to utilize the time and expertise of a visiting volunteer Vet, Dr. Lynn Beckmann, and to make stray cats the target population of this clinic.

However, in our plans we are budgeting for the sterilization of several dogs as well, so if you know of someone who has a dog but is unable financially to sterilize it, please give Dr. Delfino a call (998 167 8895) and we will schedule the animal for a free sterilization.

How YOU can help!

DONATE FUNDS
We are in need of funds for the clinic. If you are able to help out, we would greatly appreciate it. Since we are organizing this locally , we will be purchasing all of the meds and many of the supplies here, and we also will be reimbursing Dr. Delfino for the use of his clinic for the week.

A quick and easy way to donate today is to use your credit or debit card with PayPal on our website
www.peace-islamujeres.org Please make sure to write in the memo: Animal clinic

Thanks in advance for your help!

VOLUNTEER
Since we are focusing on stray cats, the operation of the clinic will be a bit different than many of you are used to, however we still need your help!

The schedule is as follows:
The clinic will operate from 8am to 4pm, Monday 19 –Friday 23, with the cat trapping taking place from approx. 9pm-11pm Sunday -Thursday.
We need volunteers for the following tasks:
1. Registration. We'll need one Spanish speaking person at all times. There will be no intake per se, but we need help with the paperwork and someone to work with folks who may bring their animals in.

2. Vet assistants. We would like to have one person assisting the vets at all times. Nursing experience would be great but not necessary.

3. General helpers. Doing any odd jobs, roving, shaving the animals, etc. It would be ideal to have two general helpers during all shifts.

4. Animal pick up. Setting cat traps, retrieval, and animal transportation: We will have three trucks to use for transportation with the trapping. We will have approx. 12 traps and will set the traps out between 9-10pm and return for them about an hour later. We will be setting the cat traps on Sun. – Thurs. evenings. We are looking for three volunteers each night to assist us with trapping.

The clinics will operate from 8am to 4pm. Shifts will be 8-12:30; 12:30-4:30pm. It would be greatly appreciated if volunteers could arrive 15 minutes before their start time. If you can put in a full day or work on more than 1 day, that's great.

If you are able to help, please email me ASAP (anna@peace-islamujeres.org) with your preferred job(s) and days/shifts. Let me know if you have any questions at all.

Thank you in advance,
~Anna
